An Introduction to Retail, Fashion Buying & Design

Intention

To introduce TY students to the various retail fashion and design careers, and outline the scope of the retail industry.  To inform them of the possibilities available, and involve them in demonstrating the intrinsic elements of the job.

Outcome

The students will discover the essential requirements and benefits of this exciting career, involving creativity, international travel and job fulfilment.

Sample Group work

Students work in small groups to create A presentation of 8-10 coordinated key items within a specific fashion category.

Topics covered include sourcing, layout, design, trend research and budgeting. We will also explore sales forecasting & prediction by store/week/season.

Each group will present their collection & budget to the group for discussion and evaluation.
