Lansdowne
In this 1930’s terrace house, we undertook a full home renovation and extension.
For the owners, a family of 4, with 2 dogs, space was at a premium, and the home had outlived its previous 2007 upgrade.
Planning was a key issue in this small, long established residential area of Dublin 4, and the scope to extend was minimal.
We extended the front of the house on the lower level, moving the interior wall, to maintain the generous size of the front sitting room, and used the extra space in the back of the house, providing a larger kitchen, incorporating an island and concealed pantry, a booth style dining area, and creating a den style living area in the back, along with a utiity and downstairs toilet. Upstairs, we extended at the back on the upper level, creating a generous landing area, new family bathroom, and master bedroom with en suite, along with 2 more bedrooms.
Throughout the home we incorporated a variety of natural surfaces, including the reclaimed parquet solid wood floor, sourced from salvage, in the hall & sitting room, the 3cm Egyptian tumbled limestone tiles in the kitchen, dining and living area, solid wood kitchen units, marble countertops, wool rugs and a leather dining bench. We also ran the same brick from the exterior, into the inlay of the solid fuel stove in the sitting room, and incorporated it as a feature backsplash in the kitchen.
Upstairs the emphasis was on comfort and luxury, with velvet carpets throughout, bespoke lined textural curtains, heated tiles & towel rails, and generous storage.
All new windows and doors were installed, in a stone grey, with minimal detailing. Extra moulding around the doors and window frames created an elevated sense of charm and added depth and character to the rooms.
We kept the palette neutral largely throughout, to enhance the sense of comfort and calm, picking out the doors and door frames in the stronger neutral ‘Esker Ridge’ from Colourtrend. Statements were made in the family bathroom, and small toilet with strong colour drenching throughout.
Features like the door handles, switches and sockets in matt bronze throughout gave an extra sense of luxury to the finish.
